Materials & Quality

What are the house numbers made of?

Our numbers are made from a super tough commercial grade composite signage material. They are  1/4" thick with a dense inner plastic core sandwiched between thin layers of aluminum.  Lightweight but durable, and UV safe so they won’t fade or degrade in the sun. The silver numbers feature a brushed aluminum facing. We’ve carefully chosen materials that will look great for a long time.

I ordered one size of numbers. Why are the numbers slightly different sizes?

Fonts are intentionally designed to look good to the eye. So, for example, if you chose eight inch characters, the “1” or the “L”  may be 7.75 inches high, but the rounded numbers like the “3” or the “O” will be 8 inches high. If you need to know exact sizes, please let us know - we are happy to provide the details you need!

Do your numbers hold up in extreme climates?

Yes. Our materials are chosen specifically for real-world outdoor conditions, including cold Canadian winters and coastal environments. The plastic composite is UV safe so it won’t fade or yellow in the sun, and the adhesive is rated from -40C all the way up to 95C. If you’re concerned about the adhesive (see below) in extreme cold for example, the standoff mounting option is a great alternative.

Installation

How do I install them?

Every order comes with an industrial-strength, exterior-rated peel-and-stick adhesive backing called VHB tape, (Very High Bond), made by 3M. They recommend 1 square inch for every 2 Lbs. But each number weighs very few ounces, and usually comes with a minimum of three squares of VHB tape! No drilling required. The tape is rated for temperatures from -40C to 95C (-40F to 200F), making it extremely weather resistant. It’s the same tape used on skyscrapers in Dubai and in the manufacture of underwater camera cases. Not bad for a house number. If you are really into the science-y details, there's a link to the adhesive data sheet below. The adhesive will bond to brick and stucco provided the surface is relatively flat. For stucco that is slightly more uneven, some customers have used outdoor rated silicone, or even a small amount of construction adhesive. Some have even reported success with using hot glue! (Caution: Please be aware that if you use these alternate methods of adhering the numbers, there is a chance that some damage may occur if the numbers ever need to be removed in the future. Please give this some thought and make an informed decision before proceeding.) For rockwork or very uneven surfaces, we recommend our standoff kits instead.

What are standoff kits and should I use one?

Standoffs mount your numbers slightly away from the wall, creating a shadow effect that looks sharp and adds real dimension, especially with larger numbers. If you want a more architectural, premium finish, standoffs are worth it. The standoff kit costs an additional $5 per number and includes a stud that screws into the back of the number, installation instructions, and positioning templates to help you drill in the right spot. Standoffs ship with half-inch spacers. If you have a very uneven surface, such as ledge stone, we are happy to provide longer custom cut “pins” for an additional $2 per number.

Do you have installation tips?

Yes! We have a full installation guide for the Adhesive here [link] and for the Standoff option here [Link]

Ordering & Customization

Can I preview what my numbers will look like?

Yes. Use the number previewer on our website to see your address in any of our available fonts and sizes before you order. It’s the best way to find the right combination for your home. If you are going to be using a vertical layout, or if you need to see a layout preview with a ruler alongside the numbers for exact measurement, just drop us a line - we are happy to provide that for you!

How do I choose the right size?

We recommend going bigger than feels instinctive. Most off-the-shelf numbers top out at 8 inches, but our listed range goes up to 16 inches tall. Numbers should be readable from a passing vehicle, not just from your front yard. If you’re unsure, drop us a line and we’ll help you figure it out. A great resource is this blog post about design considerations:[Link]

What colors and finishes do you offer?

We offer Matte Black, Matte White, and Brushed Aluminum finishes. To help choose the finish, this blog post about design considerations is a great help!

Can I get a custom font, lowercase letters, or a special size?

Absolutely. We can do almost anything. A note about sizes smaller than 6 inches - these can present some special challenges in manufacturing, so any size less than 6 inches will be the same price as the 6 inch characters. We have also provided specialty items like landscape silhouettes, engraved number plates, frames to go around your numbers, or even lettering for weddings or kid’s rooms walls or doors. Contact us with the details and we’ll get back to you with a quote, usually within 24 hours.

Can I order just one number or letter?

Absolutely. There’s no minimum order. Whether you need a full address set or just a single replacement character, we’ve got you covered. Just select your font, size, colour, and quantity and you’re good to go.

Shipping & Payment

How much does shipping cost?

Shipping is a flat $15 anywhere in Canada. Orders over $150 ship free. If you’re in a rush, contact us for an expedited shipping quote.

Do you ship outside Canada?

At this time, we only ship within Canada. Due to unpredictable customs fees on international orders, we've made the decision to pause cross-border shipping so our customers never get hit with unexpected charges at the door. We hope to offer international shipping again in the future.

How long will my order take?

Every single order is custom cut to your specifications. It would be impossible for us to stock every combination of  fonts, colours, and sizes, (nearly nine thousand, if you’re counting), so orders may take up to 2 to 3 weeks to fill. We usually try our best to get them out sooner though!

If you need “Rush” service, contact us and we can discuss expediting for a fee.

How do I check on my order?

You should receive a confirmation email shortly after you order. And when the order is shipped, you will be receiving another email with your tracking information. If you have any other questions, email is the best way to reach us. We aim to respond to all emails and contact form submissions within 24 to 48 hours. You can also leave us a phone message and we’ll get back to you by email or phone within the same window.

What’s your return or satisfaction policy?

Because every order is custom cut to your specifications, we aren’t able to accept returns on orders that we manufactured according to the directions that were entered on the order form.  That said, we genuinely want you to be happy with your purchase. If something arrives damaged or there’s an error on our end, contact us right away and we’ll make it right. When in doubt, use the number previewer before you order, and reach out if you have any questions about sizing or fit. We’d rather help you get it right the first time. Just to set your mind at ease, we have a file with several hundred emails from very satisfied customers, praising our dedication to providing unexpectedly great service!

Bulk & Commercial Orders

Do you offer discounts for bulk or commercial orders?

Yes! We work with developers from all across Canada! If you’re ordering for a multi-unit development, a strata, a commercial property, or any project that needs numbers in volume, we’d love to work with you. We offer pricing for larger orders. Contact us with the details of your project and we’ll put together a quote.

Who typically places bulk orders?

Property developers, strata corporations, property managers, architects, and contractors are all great fits. If you need consistent, well-designed numbers across multiple units or properties, we can make that easy.

A Bit About Us

Who’s behind Number My House?

Number My House was started by two brothers from Calgary, Alberta. Nathan built the original CNC cutting machine himself. The business has always been a family affair, and it’s now run from Victoria, BC with the same hands-on approach it started with. Every order is personally checked and shipped by us.

We love good design, good fonts, and the Maker movement. If you have a good story about your house numbers, we’d genuinely love to hear it.
